Keystone Lake History

Keystone Lake was named for the former Keystone community near the junction of the Cimarron and Arkansas Rivers.

The dam project

Construction began in the 1950s and the project entered flood-control operation in September 1964. The powerplant began commercial operation in 1968.

Local communities

The lake’s creation affected former townsites and led to the relocation of Mannford and Prue. For detailed historical information, consult official and local historical sources.
